The Vikings hosted regional foe Ashland this week, on youth night at Dave Shuster Field. The Vikings were victorious beating Ashland 5-3. There were 50 youth players from the Morehead Youth Soccer League that made it out to participate in the Vikings Youth Night. The youth ran out on to the field with the starting line up and lined up with them for the National Anthem. The youth players were able to get there faces painted and several volunteered to be ball boys for the varsity games.
The Vikings got off to quick start and dominated the first 15 min of the game. Justin Graham was the first player to find the back of the net, with a header off the corner from Zach Alcorn. Trevor P’Simer scored twice, both on assists coming from Evan Baker. The Tomcats were able to score two in the first half. The Vikings out shot the Tomcats 19-3 in the first half.
The second half started off, much as the first half did. Freshman Nick Tiedeman scored his second goal of the season, as he finished a ball that was bouncing around the box. Larry Whelan converted a goal, off a pass from Allan Mays, that was set up by Trevor P’Simer. The Tomcats were able to score a late goal the last few moments of the game. The game finished in a 5-3 victory for the Vikings, taking us to 7-3 on the season. The Vikings will be on the road Monday night to take on regional the rivals the Russell Red Devils and will host district foes Menifee County on Thursday night at Dave Shuster.
