Rowan hosted the only Junior Varsity tournament in the region. 9 teams from the 10th and 16th regions competed for the title of “best JV squad in the area.” The Valkyries came into the day with a record of 11-2, one of the best JV records in the the last 5 years.
They beat GRC (2-1) and Morgan (2-0) in the morning pool play to advance to the gold division round robin for the overall title. The gold division brought them to face Greenup Co. and Harrison Co. Both schools have good squads. Greenup is a very defensive and scrappy team while Harrison is traditionally a stronger team offensively. Rowan took Greenup in three sets and finished off Harrison in two sets, ultimately earning them the gold division title.
This is a huge step forward and speaks highly for what to expect in the coming years from the valkyries.
The varsity team will play Tuesday, the 21st at Fleming in the district title game. The game is at 7:00. Bring the noise.
