Multiple Teams · Valkyries Top District

District titles for the Rowan County volleyball team are common occurrences. Leading into this year’s tournament, only one trophy eluded them three years ago at Fleming County. This year, the tournament was once again at Fleming, causing a little bit of uneasiness with the team.

Rowan has always taken advantage of the regular season games to win a bye spot into the final game. One win to bring home hardware is odd, but the Valkyries aren’t complaining.

They took on the Lady Cats of Bath County who have not seen the title game in four years. Emotions and adrenaline would be at an all-time high for Bath so Rowan wanted to shut down the Lady Cats as quickly as possible. That’s just what they did. They finished off Bath in 3 straight sets (25-14, 25-19, 25-18). Rowan made it clear they were the superior team with better system play and better control.

The Valkyries like being on top and they continue to show their dominance in this area by taking 12 of the last 13 district titles in the current postseason format. The team now moves on to the regional tournament to be played at Boyd County High School next week.

The team drew Fairview in the regional draw. They will play on Monday at 6:00 pm. We hope to see you there.
