Multiple Teams · Freshman Girls Basketball Improving Every Day

The RCSHS Girls Freshman team is in full swing with games.  The girls have already gotten in five games and hold a 1-4 record.  So far this season the girls have played Russell and Johnson Central.  They also participated in the Powell County freshman tournament where they competed against Lee County, Powell County and Montgomery County.  The girls got on the winning track against Montgomery County during this tournament.  McKayla Grimshaw was awarded the player of the game trophy against Montgomery County scoring a team high 10 points.  The Lady Vikings leading scorers are Shelby Ricer, Promise Cross and Brooke Blevins.

The girls team is extremely young this season.  They have  one freshman, one eight grader, and nine seventh graders.  They have been working hard in practice to make themselves and each other better.  The girls are starting to learn the speed difference between middle school and high school basketball.  As the season progresses, there is now doubt the girls will get a taste of success.  With the work ethic they have all shown so far, the future looks bright fro Rowan County girls basketball.
