Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Girls Miss Win by 1 Point

Missing first place by one point would be heartbreaking for most, but the Vikings were proud of their swims, with several Personal Records (PR) and Season Bests (SB).  The girls were second with 91 points, with Russell getting first with 92.  The Rowan County Boys also got second and secured 2nd place for the Vikings overall with Ashland getting first.  Middle school swimmers were invited to participate in exhibition swims.  Three boys from Rowan County swam the 50 Free and obtained their PR’s so the next time they swim they will have new goals.  They were Joe Ammons 39.84, McKay Thacker 40.74, and Collin Tuerk 42.97, and would have placed 14th, 15th and 16th, respectively.

The team is always striving to improve their times, but if the plan comes together, EVERY swimmer will swim their best times at the Region 4 Meet, Feb. 13th & 14th in Erlanger, KY.

Morehead State University Recreation & Wellness Center was the venue for Rowan County’s first home meet of the year.  Senior Swimmers from all teams were recognized before the meet started.  Rowan County’s Senior Swimmers are Garrett Baldridge, Mason Bush, and Kirsten Carreon.  Many swimmers from Bourbon, Fleming, Ashland, Boyd, Mason, Russell, East Carter and Rowan competed in the best pool environment this season.  Some parents from Russell commented about the facility.  “I would like to see a region meet held here,” said Bill Bloss.  Lee Seaton said it was impressive as the brightest, cleanest facility they have been to and looked forward to swimming there again. Even though Seaton and a few other parents offered to help time, they were thankful they could enjoy the meet without working it, all because of the Rowan County National Honor Students volunteering.  Students participating were:   Brandon Marcum, Jess Sizemore, Abby Kenney, Emma Lewis, Sam Yang, Samantha Bradley, Ray White, Adam Duff, Daniel Merritt, Allie McKenzie, and Abby Moore.

As the regular season wraps up, the Vikings will host their last regular season meet of the year at MSU on Tuesday, Feb. 3rd, starting at 6pm.  Entry fee is $3 and Free for Students and Children under 18.  Also, Rowan Swimming Senior Night, will be held Thursday, Feb. 5th at the RCSHS Boys Basketball game at the high school.
