Abby_Hammond softballThe Lady Vikings took care of business with Mason County in a big way Tuesday, March 17.  The ladies in green defeated the visiting Lady Royals 15-0 in the 3 inning, mercy ruled contest.

Senior pitcher Abby Hammond tossed her first career no-hitter and got her first win of the young season.

The game remained tied at 0-0 through two innings.  In the home half of the third inning the Lady Viking bats came to life.  RC sent 19 batters to the plate in the third before senior Courtnae Bolander brought in the game-winning RBI with a base hit.

Hammond led the team on the other side of the plate as well going 3 for 3 on the night with 4 runs-batted-in.  Three other Lady Vikings registered hits as well:  freshman Sarah Hallock went 2 for 3 with 3 RBI, Bolander was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI, and sophomore catcher Sara Robinson had two base hits in two trips to the plate with 2 RBI as well as a sacrifice bunt.

“Abby pitched well and gave us a chance to win.” commented Coach Slone.  The team played well and we took care of business.  It was an enjoyable game to watch”

The Lady Vikings host the West Carter Lady Comets on Wednesday, March 18.  Varsity game start time is 5:30 p.m.
