2a Lady Vikings softballThe Rowan County Lady Vikings shut out the Lady Jackets of Nicholas County on Wednesday, March 25 at Lady Viking Field with a final score of 4-0.  Senior pitcher Abby Hammond faced all but one batter in the win and moves to 4-1 on the season.  The Lady Jackets managed only 3 hits in the game while striking out four times and walking twice.

“It was a great outing for Abby and the team” commented Coach Larry Slone. “She pitched well and the team played good defense behind her.  It was a good team win”

The girls in green scattered six hits with Hammond and freshman Sarah Hallock each registering a base hit and an RBI.  Seniors  Lindsey Wilson, Becca Duff, and Autumn Meade and junior Shelbie Hanson each chipped in with base hits.

In the top of the fifth inning, Wilson got the crowd going with a defensive highlight reel moment, a diving catch from behind the plate to get the second out.

Next up for the Lady Vikings (5-3) is a home game with Powell County (1-0) on Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m.
