Girls Junior Varsity Softball, Girls Varsity Softball · Lady Vikings Sweep Bath County

SB Rowan vs BreathittThe RCSHS Lady Vikings swept the visiting Lady Wildcats of Bath County Tuesday evening in front of the home crowd at Lady Viking Field.  It was a big night for junior catcher Sara Robinson who batted in all of the runs in game one and got her first career home run in game two. Junior pitcher Jayse Pennington also had a memorable night pitching back-to-back shutouts.

Game 1: Rowan County 3, Bath County 0

The contest remained knotted at 0-0 until the bottom of the fifth inning.  Emily Hammonds reached the base pads on a bobbled fielding attempt.  The small-ball attack was a Pennington Bathsuccess as both Brooklin Adams and Sarah Hallock bunted their way on base. Then Robinson stepped up to the plate with no outs and bases loaded and ripped a base hit to the left-center fence and notched three RBI.

Bath County showed some life in the seventh when Catcher Darby Fraley knocked a double to the fence.  The Lady Wildcats visions of a rally were smashed as the RC defense turned a 6-3-5 double play to seal the victory.

Pennington struck out six and walked three while the Lady Wildcats scattered three hits in game one.

Game 2: Rowan County 12, Bath County 0 (5 innings)

Hallock BathThe Girls in Green struck early and often in game two.
