Memo for Elementary Cross Country Parents
10/07 Rowan County Meet Information:
12:00 Girls 5th and 6th Grade 3K (3,000 Meters = 1.86 miles)
12:30 Boys 5th and 6th Grade 3K (3,000 Meters = 1.86 miles)
1:00 Girls 4th and under 2K (2,000 Meters = 1.25 miles)
1:30 Boys 4th and under 2K (2,000 Meters = 1.25 miles)
Please have your child at the tent 45 minutes prior to their respective race time. I will send a remind with tent location the morning of the race. This will provide us time to assign numbers and get warmed up. To this point all children have ran a mile, the distance change reflects what is ran at state competition.
After the race, plan with your children where to meet you (tent and finish line are good options). I will not have a sign-in/sign-out sheet, as runners will come and go with parents.
Medals will be awarded to the top 20 finishers in each race. Team Trophies for 1st and 2nd place teams.
1) We picked up another meet for our runners. It will be Tuesday (10/10) in Bath County. More information to follow on website.
2) I’m still missing jersey money for some students, so please try to get this in no later than next Wednesday (10/11).
3) Next Saturday (10/14) will be the last regular season meet for all participants. The following week (10/16-10/20) will be practice for state competitors (top 6 each gender 5th and 6th; top 6 each gender 4th and under) only. I will notify parents by phone on Wednesday 10/11 if your child qualifies for the state meet.
4) Sadly, I will not be able to attend the meet on 10/14. I have a previous engagement for a close friend’s wedding. Coach Jason (Elementary Co-Head Coach) and Coach Thacker (Middle School Head Coach) will be on buses with runners and coaching the meet. They will have all emergency contact info and sign-in/out sheets for my runners. Their combined experience will ensure a safe and successful meet.
As our season begins to come to a close, I’d like to thank all parents for allowing your children to participate. I’d also like to thank everyone for your patience and support through my first year of coaching experience. It has truly been a privilege. I look forward to finishing the season with three more strong showings!
